DPT Field Engineer

Aquila Engineering | Houston, TX (Gulf Coast field work) | Full-time, entry to early-career

The Role

Aquila is a Houston-based engineering and technology company building AI-driven systems for offshore drilling. Our Digital Pressure Testing (DPT) platform captures live pressure test data from sensors on the rig and turns it into validated, automated reports. We are hiring DPT Field Engineers to deploy, run, and troubleshoot that system in the field. This is a computer, data, and instrumentation role — your focus is sensor systems, data acquisition, and software, not well control operations. If you understand how sensors, data acquisition hardware, networks, databases, and software fit together and you like figuring out why something is not working, this job is for you.

No oil & gas or offshore experience required. We will train you on well control equipment and pressure testing.

What You Will Do
  • Set up and run DPT data acquisition hardware and sensors on rigs and at facilities
  • Operate the DPT software to capture, log, and validate pressure test data in real time
  • Troubleshoot sensor, connectivity, network, database, and application issues on your own in the field
  • Tell the difference between a hardware fault, a network fault, and a software/data fault, and fix or escalate accordingly
  • Keep clean test records and communicate status clearly to our onshore engineering team and the client
  • Feed what you learn in the field back to our software and AI teams to make the product better
What We Are Looking For
  • Hands-on experience with: data acquisition systems (DAQ), sensors and instrumentation, or PLC/SCADA/embedded systems
  • Working knowledge of: databases and SQL, basic networking (IP, connectivity troubleshooting), Windows/Linux, scripting in Python or similar
  • A systems mindset: you can trace a problem from sensor to signal to software to report and isolate where it broke
  • Self-directed troubleshooter: you work well with remote support instead of an on-site supervisor
  • Communication: clear written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Willing to travel: to Gulf Coast rigs and facilities on a rotational or as-needed basis (offshore training and certifications provided)
Backgrounds That Fit Well
  • Recent or upcoming graduates from LSU, UT Austin, or other Texas and Louisiana programs in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, petroleum engineering with a data/controls focus, mechatronics, or instrumentation technology
  • Texas and Louisiana candidates with 0 to 5 years in instrumentation, controls, IT/networking, test engineering, or data systems in any industry
  • Technical military veterans (Navy Nuclear ET/EM, avionics, fire control, IT/cyber)
  • Certifications are a plus, not a must: CompTIA A+ / Network+, ISA instrumentation, NI LabVIEW, any cloud or database cert
What We Bring
  • Full training on well control equipment, pressure testing, and offshore safety requirements
  • A direct path from field engineer into data engineering, product, or AI roles as the platform grows
  • Exposure to cloud, on-prem AI, and edge computing systems deployed on real rigs
  • Compensation set for the role and skillset, with travel and offshore pay where applicable
Not Needed

BOP or well control experience, offshore experience, oil & gas background, or regulatory (API/BSEE) knowledge. We hire for computer and data fluency and teach the rest.
